SEVEN ACTIONS TO AVOID

Fedrick Lord Leighton Captive Andromache 1986-88
There are many things in life that are not only unpleasant to others but can become a barrier when seeking to make friendship with others. Everyone who desires a good friend, admire some basic qualities such as modesty and sincerity in others. It is the intention of most if not all to strive to make life a beautiful song, however not many have succeeded. It is important to cultivate good habits if we intend to make this a reality in our lives.

If we were to be honest, we will agree that persons speaking in an ungraceful manner, whether muttering or shouting on first sight can really prejudice our opinion against them. As we look at these seven (7) unpleasant actions may we endeavour to avoid them.

Unforgiving
None is perfect, and in life we all will make mistakes, it is therefore our responsibility to forgive others. He who will not forgive is not fit for a good society; the "Good Book" says we should forgive in order that we might be forgiven. Whatever imperfection we may have be assured people will find them out.

Speech
The habit of being careless when meeting people and forgetting their names is in bad taste. It is like starting a story and not able to finish it. we should also avoid the use of vulgar languages as well as idle talk.

Choice of  friends
We should try as much as possible to choose good company; as they have the power to influence us. It is said "birds of a feather flock together" or "show me your friends and I will tell who you are." It is not possible to have a good character and be in bad company.

Calumny
Slander and back-biting is one of the most distasteful and ruinous thing; anyone who finds pleasure in this evil speaking of others should be avoided. Whatever they do to others rest assured they will do to you. To ruin the reputation of anyone is a malicious act, and shows a lack of love and care for others. So speak well of others.

Dishonesty
Honesty, everyone likes a trusted friend and without honesty there can be no trust. Show patience toward others recognising that one day you might stand in need of the same. Speak the truth.

Unkindness
Be kind one to another, tender-hearted, showing love one to another. It is a beautiful thing to experience kindness, so don't be forgetful, spread kindness all around. Let us assist others in their necessity.

Actions
Whatsoever one sows that he will reap, remember our actions carry consequences, and everything we do be good or bad will bring a reward; it doesn't matter how long it takes to come to fruition the results are equally certain and important. So in our dealings with others we should seek only to do the good things.

These seven principles have the power to change our lives as well as others for good, let us endeavour to live our lives in the understanding that we recognise the importance of doing to our neighbours as we would have them do to us.
